First steps to start our business

First step to starting our free dating site One March day in 2008, my partner and I had been texting back and forth as we commonly do and he said 'out of the blue' "Don't laugh, I have an idea." I text "Of course, I won't" and held my breath. Across my pretty little red 'pearl', came "Let's start a dating site". Well, at that point, he had my attention. This might have sounded really odd to many people, but to me it was our chance to make 'lemonaide from lemons'. My, as I now call him, business partner and I had been in a relationship and one of us had an internet affair. We are still close friends. Our story really starts there. When he described his idea to me, he also described how we could monetize the site using a model that is 'tried and true.' At that point, I was hooked. For the next several weeks, I was on vacation. I and 'The Prince' as he is now known, worked day and night, weekends and into the wee hours of every morning. After all, we were starting from scratch. He is a computer systems analyst and I am an Application Specialist for a Hospital based informatics program. Ok, so yeah, we had the computer background. But these two careers have absolutely nothing to do with writing, publishing and maintaining, etc. web pages. We definitely started from scratch. We both started by getting our hands on any and all of the information from the internet that we could to learn everything that we could. But this has it's limitations. You have to know what it is that you don't know, and in our case, we really didn't realize what we didn't know. Oh well, we looked at it as life is a journey and we are definitely all learning every day. |
